Reduce Wrinkles With These 8 Tips

Dear Reader,

Your skin says so much about you... so to be sure all of it is good, there are things you can do to help you skin stay soft, smooth and free of years-adding wrinkles. As a general rule, to do right by your skin you need to...

- Avoid the sun

- Wear sunscreen every day, all year

- Wear protective clothing (or a hat) when you are out in the sun

- Don't smoke

- Use a quality moisturizer

Let us share with you eight, less well-known ways to keep your skin soft, smooth and wrinkle free.

1. Sleep on your back. Sleeping in some (side, facedown) positions night after night can bring on sleep lines, wrinkles that get etched into that top layer of skin and won't fade once you're up and about. To help combat this, sleep on your back as many nights as you can.

2. Eat more fish, especially salmon. This food is a perfectly natural source of protein, a building block of great-looking skin. Any cold water fish is a good source of essential fatty acids that nourish the skin and keep it plumper and more youthful looking, which helps to make wrinkles less noticeable.

3. Stop squinting and get reading glasses. The glasses won't make you look nearly as old as the wrinkles that come from constant squinting. Making the same expression all the time overworks the facial muscles and forms a groove under the surface of the skin. Over time the groove becomes a wrinkle. So keep your eyes wide open, wear reading glasses if you need them, and get updated about sunglasses that protect the delicate skin around the eyes from damage, and help cut down on that best known of wrinkle builders, squinting.

4. Don't over wash your face as tap water strips your skin of both moisture and the natural oils that protect against wrinkles. Wash too much and you wash away this protection. Unless the soap you use has moisturizers in it, wash with a gel or cream facial cleaner instead.

5. Use products with Alpha-Hydroxy Acids. AHAs are natural acids that lift off the top layer of dead skin cells so that pores look smaller, fine lines and surface wrinkles are eased. Stronger AHAs might even help boost the production of collagen. Be sure to use lots of sunscreen as products with AHAs can also make your skin more sensitive to the sun.

6. Wear your vitamin C. Some research has found that cream with vitamin C can increase collagen production, protect against UVA and UVB damage and help reduce dark spots and uneven skin tone, even easing redness. But it has to be the right type of vitamin C - L-ascorbic acid is considered the best for wrinkle relief, but you can also try products with their vitamin C ingredient listed as ascorbyl palmitate.

7. Soy for your skin may improve appearance and protect it too. Research suggests that soy applied to the skin (or taken as a supplement) might help guard against (or heal) some of the sun's damage. It's also been found to help improve the structure of the skin and its firmness, and to even out the skin tone.

8. Trade in your coffee for cocoa. In one study researchers saw that cocoa with high amounts of two antioxidants protected skin from sun damage, while also improving blood flow to skin cells, helped keep it hydrated and made the skin look and feel so much smoother.
